Libraries and GPs join forces to offer books on prescription

A national scheme offering ‘books on prescription' to people with mental health problems is to be rolled out across Devon.

Dementia awareness event

Plymstock Library is hosting a dementia awareness event on Friday 28 June.

The event, which will run from 11am to 2pm, will be a chance to learn about dementia and mental wellbeing and find out how to keep both mind and body active.

Local organisations including the Alzheimer’s Society, Plymouth Mind and the Council’s Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery will be on hand to give advice and information about support services and activities on offer.

Yachtsman dies after falling overboard in the River Yealm

A man has died after falling overboard from a yacht in the entrance to the River Yealm.

Brixham Coastguard say that they received numerous reports of a red flare in the entrance to the River Yealm. Plymouth Coastguard rescue team were called out and the Coastguard rescue helicopter based at Portland was requested. The Plymouth RNLI lifeboat was also launched in the search operation....

City bike hire contract awarded to Rockets and Rascals

Plymouth's plan to get more people peddling along the waterfront is firing up with specialists Rockets and Rascals awarded the contract to set up a cycle hire service.

Armed police arrest three men in firearms swoop

Police have arrested three men in the Prince Rock area, near Cattedown, on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

The men, aged 19, 24 and 29, are being held at Crownhill police station after armed police were called just after 1pm on Wednesday (5 June).
