Plymouth enjoys Bank Holiday sunshine

Plymouth saw a sunny start to Bank Holiday Monday, and the good news that dry weather and sunny spells are expected to continue through the week.

Shoppers and tourists enjoyed temperatures hovering around the 21°C mark on Monday, with cloud cover expected to build through the afternoon. But according to the Met Office, clear skies should emerge by Monday evening.

Met Office warns of possible isolated thunderstorms and torrential downpours

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the South West today with localised thunderstorms and torrential downpours possible (Friday 7 June).

A 'yellow warning' of rain has been issued and the Met Office say: "The public should be aware of the risk of some disruption to transport through standing water.

"There is a risk of an isolated thunderstorm developing today...

Environment Agency issues flood alerts as heavy rainfall hits the region

The Environment Agency has issued a number of flood alerts for Cornwall and West Devon, including the Plymouth area, as the heavy rain continues across the region this afternon and into the early hours of tomorrow morning (Wednesday 15 May).

Between 20 and 40mm of rain is expected and higher localised rainfall could cause some river flooding risks...

Ten Tors teams finish amid tough conditions

The first teams began crossing the finishing line in this year's Ten Tors challenge on Sunday morning (12 May) with the last arriving some three quarters of an hour beyond the usual finish time of 5pm.

First snow-related death from Blizzard Nemo confirmed

Blizzard Nemo has hit the North East Coast of The U.S. burying the roads in over thirty inches of snow in some places.

The first casualty of the severe weather conditions, a 74-year-old man, has died in Poughkeepsie, New York. He was hit by an 18-year-old driver, who lost control of his vehicle due to snow and hit the pedestrian who was walking on the side of the road...

Warning for ice and snow at weekend

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice on 12 th and 13 th January 2013.

There will be outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow, with temperatures dropping afterwards, leading to a risk of icy surfaces throughout the UK.

They recommend the public to take extra care when travelling and to be aware of the risk of disruption, this Saturday and Sunday.
