Elaine Chalus, Professor of British History, Bath Spa University
Elaine Chalus’ research expertise lies in English social and political history during the long 18th century. Her current research project is on ‘The Admiral’s Wife: An Intimate History of Family, Navy and Empire’, which draws upon the largely unknown diaries of Elizabeth Wynne Fremantle (1778-1857), and the letters and correspondence of the larger Fremantle (Barons Cottesloe) family. Her lecture is drawn from this project, and examines the separation of husband and wife during the Napoleonic Wars.

This will appeal to those those who felt that what was missing from Invasion of the Body Snatchers was an unnecessarily long fist fight in an alley and for anyone who appreciates the subtle nuance and raw emotion that only a professional wrestler can bring to a screen performance.

Student accommodation is changing the face of the Plymouth property scene and dramatically altering the range of accommodation available.
That’s the view of Mark Slade from Bruton Knowles’ Plymouth office, who said: “With upwards of 26,000 students in and around the city there is an insatiable appetite for student accommodation in the city. The continued expansion of the university...
The claim that flowing water has been discovered on Mars could undoubtedly enhance knowledge of the Red Planet, a scientist from Plymouth University has said.
But it could also make future exploration of the planet more difficult because of restrictions designed to prevent the contamination of any potential biological material or ecosystem on Mars, or anywhere throughout the solar...
