New book about the history of the repertory season at the Manor Pavilion Theatre Sidmouth launches with great success.
The book charts the remarkable story and significant figures who made the play season what it is today.
Made from thorough research and interviews, it reveals the successes and challenges the theatre has faced over the years, highlighting it's resilience and determination against all odds. Next year will mark the 70th anniversary of the Sidmouth Summer Play Festival, which is still thriving and continues to draw big audiences to the theatre.
The Manor Pavilion Theatre Sidmouth is home to the longest running weekly repertory season in the country. Once a mainstay of the British theatre scene, there are very few true repertory seasons left. In rep theatre, one company will produce and rehearse a season of plays in succession. The process is very intense, with the play for the following week being rehearsed in the daytime whilst performing another show that night. Actors will often have multiple plays in their head at any one time and the whole theatre will be alive with an unmistakable buzz of activity.
Paul's book places the Manor Pavilion Theatre Sidmouth within the wider context of theatre history and helps to tell a previously untold story.
You can buy the book from the Manor Pavilion Theatre Box Office or from Paul's website COMEDY TOMORROW, TRAGEDY TONIGHT! by Paul Smith – Theatre Plays
