Good Afternoon Choir “Big Sing” at Holy Trinity Church
On February 17 a very special musical event took place at Holy Trinity Church, Exmouth. More than 100 members from Good Afternoon Choirs based in Crediton, Exmouth, Sidmouth, Taunton and Torquay came together for an afternoon “Big Sing” workshop followed by an evening concert.
The workshop was led by extremely talented Good Afternoon Choir Leaders – Craig Northway, Jon Rawles, Maria Thorne and Matt Finch – and was great fun, with one GAC member commenting that the “musical and directional skills ensured that everybody had a great day” and another that “the overall atmosphere and direction was first class”.
The special guests for the evening concert were the brilliant Exmouth Shanty Men – the original buoy band!
“The Exmouth Shanty Men are one of the most exciting and entertaining acts to appear on the traditional folk scene in years, and surely the most cheery gaggle of rascals you are ever likely to meet!” says Grenville Jones, Founder of the Good Afternoon Choirs.
Lisa Pike from Open Door Exmouth said that it was “a wonderful evening and the audience were incredibly generous” donating £561.10 towards the charity which works to combat isolation and poverty in the area.
There are more than 30 Good Afternoon Choirs across the West of England and beyond with over 1,500 people “Singing in the Afternoon”. If you are interested in joining then please visit our website www.goodafternoonchoir.org for further details.
