Radford Community Centre in Plymstock has been awarded £1,000 from Persimmon Homes.

The accredited five-star housebuilder behind the nearby Saltram Meadow development made the donation as part of its Community Champions scheme. The funds have been used to purchase new and updated kitchen equipment for the benefit of the Centre’s users.

Radford Community Centre is run by Royal Navy Family & People Support and caters specifically to Armed Forces personnel and their families who live in Plymouth, whilst also facilitating events for other charities and public authorities.

The Community Champions programme sees £700,000 donated each year to good causes and much-valued organisations across Britain. Recent local recipients include St Luke’s Hospice, Plymouth Hospitals Charity, The Box Museum, Building Plymouth, and Mutley Air Cadets.

Persimmon has one, two, three, and four-bed homes available for sale from £164,500 at Saltram Meadow in Plymstock. Plans for the public square, an Aldi supermarket, and the final stages of residential development are currently progressing through the planning system.

The housebuilder has its own bespoke Armed Forces Discount Scheme – which offers £500 off every £25,000 spent on a new home – in addition to the government-backed Forces Help-to-Buy that enables British service personnel to borrow up to 50% of their annual salary to put towards buying a home.

Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon’s sales director, Jane Cartwright, said:

“Persimmon is proud to cater to armed forces personnel through our discount scheme and our high level of affordability that boosts our popularity among first-time buyers, but we also want to give back through our Community Champions scheme.

“That’s why we are pleased to award Radford Community Centre, in close proximity to our Saltram Meadow site, this funding to support their works in looking after forces personnel in Plymouth, many of which will surely be living in Persimmon homes.”

Nicky Ransley, Community Development Worker at Radford Community Centre, added:

“We are really pleased that Persimmon has chosen to recognise the importance of our work here and the effort that goes into providing a supportive and social space for Armed Forces personnel and their families, here in Plymouth.

“Our kitchen equipment has been in real need of an upgrade for a while and this donation has finally allowed us to address that issue, putting a smile on the faces of all those who use the centre. Thanks again to Persimmon for their support.”
