Woman rescued from the River Tamar

Police recieved a call from the Torpoint Ferry Office at 7.45pm yesterday to say that a woman was in the River Tamar.

The 39 year old woman was a passenger on the foot of the Torpoint Ferry.

It is still not known how she became in the water.

On seeing the woman in the water, a man jumped in to save her.

The man has been named locally as a Royal Marine.

Man escapes after van plunges into River Tamar

A man has been taken to hospital after his van crashed through a bridge wall and plunged 15 feet into the fast-flowing River Tamar in Cornwall.

The accident happened at about 9am on Saturday morning on the New Bridge in Gunnislake.

The van demolished a section of the parapet wall and plunged about 15ft (5m) into the River Tamar.
