Devonport Column Opening Ceremony

Devonport Column is one of the city’s finest heritage buildings.

Now fully restored and renovated thanks to a Heritage Lottery Grant, the public can access the 124-foot viewing platform for the first time in more than 50 years, offering the finest views across the city, Dartmoor, Cornwall and the Sound.

Come and be part of the opening celebration featuring heritage, performances, entertainment, music and food for all ages. Admission to the celebration event is free.

Well-known Plymouth based artist Brian Pollard will also be exhibiting his artwork from Saturday...

Devonport Naval Heritage Centre Open Day

Visit the Naval Heritage Centre and discover how the dockyard of the 1690s has grown into the largest Naval Base in Western Europe, and led to the creation of both Devonport and Torpoint.

Explore eight galleries of artefacts displayed in adjacent buildings in the historic South Yard. Take a guided tour of decommissioned nuclear submarine HMS Courageous to gain a fascinating glimpse into the world of the “Silent Service” (tours available throughout the day, booking available on-site at 10am, noon and 2pm, ID required for over 16s, under 16s must be accompanied, min 4ft/1.2m height...

Traditional May Fair

Maypole dancing, morris dancing, archery, clay pigeon shooting, medieval jousting, coconut shy and lots of stalls selling goodies – come along to Mount Edgcumbe for the day and experience a traditional May Fair.

10am-4pm both days.

Underwood Under Threat – The Cholera Epidemic of 1832

Watch a play by local amateur thespians that focuses on the Underwood area of Plympton and how it was impacted by the 1832 cholera epidemic during which more than 55,000 people in the United Kingdom died.

Underwood is one of the three hamlets that make up the parish of Plympton St Mary. When cholera came to the area in 1832 villagers tried to keep it spreading but inevitably there were some casualties.
