Scanners to keep crime in check

A new ID scanning system has gone live in Plymouth to help police tackle underage drinking and alcohol-related disorder.

The computerised ID scanners were installed in eight pubs and clubs in the city centre in the run up to Christmas.

The scanners expose fake IDs being tried by underage drinkers and quickly identify troublemakers who are already banned from licensed premises...

Police appeal after heavy object thrown from footbridge

Police have condemned the actions of two men who threw a heavy object from a Plymouth footbridge into oncoming traffic.

The object hit a car being driven by an elderly woman who was extremely shaken but fortunately uninjured.

The incident took place between 2.45pm and 3pm on Saturday, 28 December at Manadon.

Flybe plane had "near-miss" with bridge

A flight by Exeter based Airline, Flybe had a “near-miss” while landing earlier this year according to a report by the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB).

The Flybe plane was carrying more than 60 passengers when it came within 894ft (272.4m) of an obstacle thought to be the Runcorn Bridge while landing at John Lennon Airport in Liverpool.

The Big Jazz Choir is Calstock’s newest, thirty strong choir, formed in 2013.

Under the musical direction of Helen Porter, their performance includes much loved jazz standards and songs created and arranged especially for the choir. More flood warnings as severe weather returns

The Environment Agency is warning of further floods today issuing five flood warnings and 27 flood alerts across the South West as the severe wind and rain continue to affect the region.

The River Teign near Chudleigh and Kingsteignton, the River Yarty and the River Dart are all expected to see localised flooding with residents warned to take immediate flood protection action.
