MP shows support for the restoration of Plymouth’s historic city centre

On Friday 20th October, Luke Pollard MP joined Historic England and Plymouth City Council to see how recent projects are improving the city centre and celebrating its post-war heritage.  

Set up in 2020, the High Street Heritage Action Zone is delivering a total investment of £2.58 million into Plymouth city centre.

Paignton Picture House

Historic England grant will help repair Agatha Christie’s favourite cinema

Historic England has awarded a grant of £206,680 towards the restoration of the Grade II* Paignton Picture House in Torbay.

The grant will cover the full cost of essential repairs to the cinema’s front face. This includes the repair of the intricate stone work and unique stained glass windows.

The Picture House is a purpose-built cinema which officially opened in 1912....

Historic England announces COVID-19 Heritage at Risk Fund

Historic England has launched a second emergency fund to support the heritage sector recovery from the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The fund, which will be up to £3 million, will award grants to those who care for some of England’s most significant historic sites in the South West to help fund urgent maintenance, repairs and investigations where our support is most needed....
