Christmas Fair marks ten years of Fairtrade

Ten years after Plymouth was awarded Fairtrade status, a Christmas Fair is being held to celebrate.

Plymouth was one of the first in the South West to earn the Fairtrade accolade in 2004 in recognition of its commitment to making fairly traded products available in local shops, cafes and other businesses.

The Broadway Christmas lights switch-on

The Christmas lights will be switched on at The Broadway on Wednesday 19 November and it’s promising to be a spectacular event!

Between 3.30pmand 6.30pm there will be a variety of live performances from local groups, on-stage competitions with the chance to win fantastic prizes and other exciting entertainment.

The finale of the evening will be the lights switch on with The Broadway competition winners, Otter Nurseries Christmas tree winner and Chaz Singh.

Buckland Abbey, Garden and Estate near Yelverton is hosting its popular Christmas craft and food fair between 10.30am and 4.30pm on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 November.

Taking place in the Abbey’s Great Barn and Small Barn, the fair will include 40 stalls of the finest crafts, food and drink from around the West Country. College musicians raise £275 for St Luke’s Hospice

Musicians from Ivybridge Community College's Flute Ensemble have presented St Luke's Hospice in Plymouth with a cheque for £275.

The money, which they raised by recording and selling a CD of Christmas Music, will help St Luke's continue to provide specialist end-of-life care to more than 3,500 patients a year across Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall.

Drunk Driver four times the limit at 11am

Over 160 drivers, including a man who four times the legal limit at 11am, were arrested during Devon and Cornwall Police’s Christmas drink driving campaign.
