Torquay Parkinson's communities invited to try new Pickleball and Petanque event
People living with Parkinson’s in Torquay and the surrounding areas of Devon are being invited to join a new Pickleball event which is aiming to help more local communities live well with the condition.
When: Monday 31 August from 10am
Where: Torquay Tennis Club, Belgrave Road, Torquay, Devon, TQ2 5HP
Delivered by the team from Torquay Tennis Club, the event is designed to help more people get into Pickleball in a fun and social way, with all ages and abilities welcome to attend.
Experienced instructors can take participants through the basics of playing the sport and all equipment is provided on-site.
As well as Pickleball, participants can also take part in Petanque, a popular French sport which uses hollow steel balls, called Boules, which can be thrown towards a wooden target ball, called a cochonnet or a jack.
Carers and relatives are also welcome to join in or watch the sessions, and teas and coffees are also provided.
A Parkinson’s quiz and fundraising raffle in aid of Parkinson’s UK will take place after the session.
Participants are recommended to wear comfortable active wear and footwear appropriate for playing table tennis and to bring bottles of water, snacks and any medication they may need on the day.
Pickleball can have many benefits for people living with Parkinson’s including:
-
Improved balance and coordination
