Fall in Devon JSA claimants is double national average

The number of Job Seeker's Allowance (JSA) claimants in Devon fell by 206 between February and March 2016, a fall of 5.5 per cent.

The drop is more than double the fall for the UK over the same period, which is 2.2 per cent.

3,718 people in Devon were claiming JSA at the end of March.

Special blessing at Civic Service to mark 75th anniversary of Plymouth Blitz

Poppy seeds will be blessed by the Bishop of Plymouth at a civic church service to honour those who lost their lives in the Plymouth Blitz.

Crime continues to fall across region

New figures announced today (Thursday, 21st April) show that recorded crime continues to fall across Devon and Cornwall.

Crime recorded between the 1st April 2015 and the 31st March 2016 shows a 3.8 per cent reduction on the same period the year prior. This equates to 3,021 fewer crimes compared to 2014/15.

Work starts on Mount Batten Tower

Work is starting on Plymouth’s historic Mount Batten Tower next week which could help the building attract more visitors.

Woman hurt in Plymouth nightclub assault

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault which happened at Annabel’s Nightclub on the Barbican in Plymouth in the early hours of Sunday 3 April 2016.

A woman was on the upstairs dancefloor between 12.25am to 12.35am when she was assaulted by an unknown man and a woman.

The victim, a 37-year-old woman from Gunnislake, sustained a fractured cheek in the attack.
