Taylor Wimpey continues its support for community parkrun in Cranbrook

As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting the local community, Taylor Wimpey Exeter has donated a further £750 towards parkrun events at Cranbrook Country Park. 

The social running event was initially set up in 2019 by Matt Rowett, who is the founder of the Cranbrook Running Club and a resident at Taylor Wimpey’s Cranbrook development. 

The initiative originally began as a two kilometre running event for children in the local area, but due to its popularity within the community, Matt has now also launched a five kilometre parkrun for adults.

Since its inception in 2004, parkrun has amassed over 250,000 runners each week and works to encourage regular exercise in inclusive environments around the country. Before each run, participants register to print out a barcode which is scanned at the end of each event, where every runners’ time is tracked.

Both the adult and junior parkruns are held each weekend at Cranbrook Country Park and attract runners from across the region.

Matt said: “Having the financial support from Taylor Wimpey to set up first the junior and now the adult parkrun has been fantastic and both event teams are very grateful for the support. More importantly, having a company like Taylor Wimpey support the ethos of both parkrun and my local running club in getting more of the community active is brilliant. 

“I’m very proud to have been able to provide a free, weekly activity for the whole community of such a new town. All of this would not be possible without the support of Taylor Wimpey and the two teams of amazing volunteers who make the event happen every week, come rain or shine. If you’re reading this and thinking of participating or volunteering, I’d thoroughly recommend it.” 

Taylor Wimpey Sales Executive Sarah Matthews also recently participated in the adult parkrun to show the team’s continued support for the events.
