A third of British holiday-makers have confessed to spending more time on Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat while on a getaway than talking to their travel companions.

It seems tropical climes and exotic sights are still not enough to lure us away from the temptation to post a gloating beach selfie or boastful status update to our friends’ newsfeeds back home.

Women are most likely to upload selfies in front of famous landmarks, while men prefer to broadcast adventurous activity updates.

The average Brit uploads 27 photos during and after a holiday, according to a poll of 2,000 people.

Top 10 most common holiday social media boasts:

1.      Me on the beach

2.      The hotel room

3.      The hotel pool

4.      Friends on the beach

5.      Me being adventurous

6.      Me eating dinner

7.      Me with an animal

8.      Absolutely anything that will prove I’m in a foreign country

9.      Photo looking out of the plane window

10.   Friends doing something adventurous
