Mid Devon Communities are being invited to have their say on a further round of consultation about parishes within the district.

In November 2021 Mid Devon District Council began a Parish Review and sought the opinions of our communities and businesses in the district. Following this a set of draft proposals have been drawn up and we are now seeking views on the plans.

The Parish Review (previously known as a Community Governance Review) reviews towns and parishes in Mid Devon and will be considering a number of options. These include:

  • creating, merging, altering or abolishing parishes
  • changing the name of parishes
  • the electoral arrangements for parishes (number of councillors, warding)
  • grouping parishes under a common parish council or de-grouping parishes.

The review has a number of aims including changing boundaries as a result of new buildings and growth, removing any existing anomalies in boundaries, as well as improving local democracy.

The first stage of consultation, which was undertaken in the winter of 2021, has allowed officers to draw up a number of proposals which can be read in detail online.

Any changes as a result of the review would come into effect for the 2023 all-out elections.

Mid Devon District Council welcomes comments from individuals and organisations about the proposals.
