Spring is just around the corner – so what better time for a mental spring clean?

The brain is the most important organ in the body and needs regular exercise to keep it ticking over. A daily crossword, Sudoku or brainteaser can help keep your mind alert, but you could go one step further and complete a Mensa supervised test or the free online workout.

For those who are curious about their IQ, Mensa has supervised tests around the country every week, including one in Plymouth on Saturday March 7.
The test will be held at the University of Plymouth in Drake Circus at 11am.

Tests can be booked at www.mensa.org.uk where there is also a choice of puzzles to help exercise the grey matter.

The free online workout, which involves 18 questions in 15 minutes, will give an indication of how well you would score in a standardised IQ test, and there are regularly updated brainteasers and a monthly fun prize puzzle.

The Mensa online shop also has a full range of puzzles and books.

British Mensa has about 20,000 members of all ages and from all walks of life, but there are more than a million potential Mensans in the UK.

Anyone with an IQ in the top two per cent of the population is eligible to join the society, which offers a varied social events programme, a monthly magazine, regional newsletters and more than 100 special interest groups ranging from classical music to chocolate.

The supervised test costs £24.95, including a free personality profile, and must be booked in advance. The test is not suitable for children under 10 and a half, who are admitted to Mensa on the evidence of an educational psychologist.

To book, visit www.mensa.org.uk/iq-tests, call 01902 772771 (select option 1) or email bookatest@mensa.org.uk

Everyone who achieves an IQ score within the top two per cent of the population will be invited to join Mensa.
