Bovey Castle is appealing for the public to help it solve a ‘whodunnit’ mystery after losing one of its cherished Christmas decorations stretching back decades.

The five-star resort will be rolling out a series of daily, light-hearted teaser reels on social media from 1st December to try and solve who stole the star from the top of Bovey’s Castle’s signature 17-foot Christmas tree in the property’s grand Cathedral Room – where Christmas has been celebrated since it became a hotel in 1928.

Each reel documents the path of a fictional private investigator who is looking to unearth clues and talk to potential suspects within the grounds; with the investigation reaching its climax on 11th December.

Bovey’s Executive Head Chef Mark Budd, Activities Manager Dani Garland, and Shopkeeper Sophia Newman are some of the suspects.

The developments can be followed on Bovey Castle’s social media profiles on FacebookInstagram and TikTok.

Those who comment on the posts with their verdict will also be automatically entered into a draw to win an afternoon tea for two at the resort.

Dean Gunston, General Manager at Bovey Castle, said: “This ‘whodunnit’ series is an alternative take on the traditional advent calendar, and enables people across the Southwest and beyond to capture a glimpse of Bovey’s magical festive setting in a fun, light-hearted way.

“Our resort is always a popular choice for those wanting to experience various elements of a traditional British Christmas – including comfy fireside chats under our signature Christmas trees, numerous festive dining options, and picturesque countryside walks across acres of Dartmoor countryside.

“And while I don’t want to give too much away on the ‘whodunnit’, even the biggest Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts among us would struggle to ‘take the reins’ and identify the guilty party in this one!”
