Dramatic cliff rescue in Plymouth

Emergency crews staged a dramatic rescue in the early hours of this morning.

At approximately 03.03hrs Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue recieved a call from Ambulance Control requesting assistance at coastal cliffs just off Admiralty road in the Stonehouse area of Plymouth.

The request for assistance was for rescuing a 25 year old male who had fallen some 25 to 30ft from the cliffs down onto the rocks below.

The fire service specialist rescue team from Camels Head was mobilised along with crews from Greenbank and the Fire Boat from Plymstock which set sail to provide lighting at the scene.

The fire service were joined at the incident by other specialist teams from both Ambulance and Coastguard and the local lifeboat.

Using specialist equipment and techniques, fire service assisted ambulance paramedics to ascend the cliffs via ropes enabling them to treat the casualty.

At 04.32hrs using fire service specialist rescue equipment, the casualty was recovered to the top of the cliff and placed in the care of on scene paramedics.
