Why wait until the summer to get out and explore? We all know that January is a time to make a change for the upcoming year, but let’s face it does anyone actually stick to this?

Don’t be that person, if you have set yourself the goal of getting outside more in 2020, start now and enjoy some of the many outdoor activities that await you, who says you can only do these activities in the summer?

We have put together a list of outdoor activities that you can enjoy in Devon this winter so that you can see what is on offer to reach your goal:

  1. Go For A Walk

Devon has a whole host of different walks for keen enthusiasts from stunning coastal areas to Dartmoor.

Why not take a walk along the South West coastal path to experience the exquisite and serene views that this beautiful part of the world has been blessed with.

The path is suitable for anyone whether you want to go walk for the whole day or just for a couple of miles, with this in mind there are also walks of different abilities whether you are looking for a strenuous or easy walk.

Another place to visit for walking is Dartmoor National Park, which also offers a host of different ability walks with your choice of how far to go, just park up and start walking. Burrator is definitely worth a visit, either taking a circular 3.5 mile walk around the reservoir or using this as a starting point for a longer walk across Dartmoor.

If you’re looking to take a rest, the pubs on Dartmoor are definitely worth a visit to cosy up by the open fire whilst you enjoy a bite to eat and refuel for the rest of your journey.

  1. Relax On The Beach

Why not take advantage of Devon being on the coastline and visit the beach, whether this be for a walk or even a BBQ.

We all enjoy visiting the beach in the summer to cool off and make the most of the weather, but how annoying is it when the beach is full and you have to cram in between everyone? Visiting the beach in the winter can be like going to a deserted island, why not pack up a blanket and a BBQ and toast some marshmallows whilst watching the sunset over your own deserted beach.

  1. Take Up A Watersport

If you’re more of a thrill-seeker, try taking up some watersports before the summer begins, whether that be paddleboarding, canoeing or surfing and guaranteed you feel exhilarated once you have done it. Being in Devon, chances are you’re never too far from one body of water or another, so it’d be a shame not to take full advantage of this fact! That said, it’s important to bear the winter temperature in mind and you will need to ensure you have the correct equipment, for example, a thicker wetsuit and a changing robe.
