Hundreds of Plymouth’s children and young people are expected to head to the Hoe next week for this year’s Playday.

This year’s Plymouth Playday takes place on Wednesday 3 August between 11am and 4pm. The day will include a games area incorporating under-five's soft play, bouncy castles, story corners and crafts. There will be balloon modelling and mascots, along with face painting and dance. Young people will also be able to take part in a wide range of sports. All the activities are free and everyone is welcome to come along and join in.

Playday is run by the Plymouth Play Events Group, a partnership between the City Council, One Step Beyond and Plymouth Play Association.

Councillor Terri Beer, Cabinet Member for Children and Young people said: “Playday couldn't happen without the support of organisations and communities from across the city and the Plymouth Play Events Group. I would like to say a big thank you to the network of people who are passionate about play and come along and support the day.”

Playday is the national day for play and is the biggest play-sector event in the UK. As well as celebrating children's right to play, Playday is a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children's lives.

Bruce Lake, Operations Manager at One Step Beyond said: “We’re really excited about this year’s Playday event as we’ve been awarded a grant from Awards for All - Big Lottery Fund, which will help us to actually hire all the equipment that is needed for the day and provide a wide range of activities.”

Alongside the main event Plymouth Play Events Group will also be running Mini Playdays across the city:

  • Wednesday 27 July Leigham Open Space PL6 8QN
  • Friday 29 July Victoria Park, Stonehouse PL1 5NJ
