Wildlife walks, stream dipping, crafts, hunts for minibeasts – all this and more is part of this year’s Meldon Wildlife Festival.

At Old Meldon Quarry, Dartmoor National Park Authority is hosting the day-long family festival packed with activities, games and crafts.

The festival on Tuesday 23 August celebrates Dartmoor’s special qualities and is completely free to attend.

The Authority is pleased to be joined by a range of organisations including the Museum of Dartmoor Life, the National Trust, South West Water, Okehampton Scouts and others.

People are encouraged to come along and celebrate Dartmoor with creative crafts and wildlife walks which explore the landscape and help all ages connect with its history and heritage.

Claire Partridge, Dartmoor National Park’s Outreach and Events Officer, said: ‘The festival is about getting closer to wildlife and nature and discovering many of the things that make Dartmoor such a special place.

“The festival is always well attended, and we love seeing people enjoying themselves. We would like to thank the landowners Okehampton Hamlets Parish Council and the Duchy of Cornwall, and Adventure Okehampton, who lease the land, for their support in making this event possible.”

Meldon Wildlife Festival runs from 10.30am – 4pm. Full details can be found on the website.

As well as the festival, the National Park has a range of activities and events, including guided visits to a Dartmoor longhouse, taking place throughout the school summer holidays.
