Local broadband company Jurassic Fibre is providing ultrafast full fibre connectivity to key businesses and residential areas in Exmouth, including regional tourist centre Ocean and Exmouth Marina.

Popular entertainment and hospitality venue Ocean is the latest business in Exmouth to benefit from ultrafast, fibre-to-the-premises broadband provided by local award-winning ISP, Jurassic Fibre.

Jurassic Fibre has been working with the seafront attraction to transform its internet facilities in time for this week’s reopening, in line with the government’s roadmap out of lockdown.

Owned by charitable trust LED Leisure Enterprises, Ocean is East Devon’s top events, catering and entertainment centre. The building, which can house up to 400 visitors, offers a range of modern spaces, services and activities which rely heavily on a reliable internet service including a 12-lane bowling alley, arcade attractions, rustic bar and restaurant as well as a fully-licensed wedding venue space.

Everything from the digital screens in the bowling alley and the integrated music system, throughout the building, to the team’s own IT and computer requirements come with huge bandwidth demands, making it vital for Ocean to have a strong and stable internet connection to ensure the smooth running of their technology and operations.

Steve Garrood, CCO at Jurassic Fibre, comments: “We are delighted to install full fibre at Ocean in Exmouth to enhance the team and visitor experience and ensure the smooth running of operations and services.

“In this digital world, there’s a real need to have a reliable connection to the internet and we are proud to be supporting businesses and communities across the South West by transforming their internet capabilities.”

Justin Moore, General Manager at Ocean Exmouth, says: “Up until three weeks ago, we were coping with internet speeds of 80Mbps, which was providing an unmanageable service for both our team and guests.

“Being closed during the lockdown has given us the opportunity to reassess our broadband capabilities and update our current internet infrastructure so that we are reopening with a faster and more reliable full fibre broadband connection.

“Improving our internet capabilities will really add value, for our customers, and ensure our new COVID-secure operations can be carried out efficiently. This includes our visitors using the NHS track and trace app when they come into the building, ordering food from their tables via smartphones and using our contactless payment and digital till systems.

“Choosing Jurassic Fibre was a no brainer. As a local company with a fantastic reputation, they are offering businesses like ours a 21st century solution to our connectivity problems.”

Jurassic Fibre is also in the process of connecting some 210 apartments on Exmouth Marina. Work on the major data unit started last Wednesday, and will provide ultrafast connectivity for the new developments.
