New technology in the Council’s garage is helping to keep vehicles on the road rather than in the workshop.

Touch screen technology has now been installed at the vehicle maintenance workshop in Prince Rock, which spells the end of pens, paper and form-filling once the job has been done.

The technology allows the vehicle fitters to fill in job cards and to update and progress jobs more quickly. It will reduce the amount of time the staff spend on administrative tasks that can slow the progress of repairs and maintenance.

Councillor Brian Vincent, Cabinet Member for the Environment said: “It’s absolutely essential that our front line vehicles are kept on the road so we can keep the city moving.

“By cutting down on the amount of time staff spend filling out paperwork we can reduce the time the vehicles are in the garage. This helps our service perform more effectively and helps reduce our running costs.”

The workshop currently looks after a fleet of 235 vehicles, including 60 rubbish trucks, 32 minibuses and four tractors.
