Everyone wants a sparklingly clean home. However, even if you believe that your cleaning skills are top notch, you are likely making a few common mistakes just like everybody else. In other words, your house could always be cleaner.

Here are a few errors that the vast majority of people make when giving their home some needed TLC.

Dusting with a feather duster

The feather duster was made for the exact purpose of getting rid of dust, so how can it possibly be a mistake to use one? As it turns out, feather dusters merely redistribute dust around the room as opposed to removing it, unless you invest in one with ostrich-down feathers. A much better solution is to use a microfiber cleaning cloth that has been dampened with a bit of water. When wiping surfaces with the cloth, the dust will be trapped on the surface and unable to float away. Rinse the cloth regularly to avoid it becoming overly saturated and less effective.

Using the same cleaning cloth for every room

Many people believe that it is perfectly fine to do this. After all, you are applying a powerful cleaning product to the cloth which is designed to kill germs. However, not even the strongest cleaning solution is able to eliminate 100% of the bacteria lurking in your home. Therefore, by using the same cloth to clean every room, you are almost certainly transferring bacteria from the bathroom to your kitchen, and bacteria from the kitchen into your living room, and so on. Avoid this by assigning a specific cleaning cloth to each specific room.

Not allowing your toilet brush time to dry

As most people know, bacteria absolutely thrive is moist, warm environments. Hence the reason why it is so dangerous to place your toilet brush back into its holder immediately after giving your toilet a good scrubbing. The next time you use it, it is likely to be full of even more bacteria that will simply be transferred back into the toilet bowl. Rather, give it a few minutes to dry before placing it back in order to keep bacterial growth to a minimum.

Cleaning in the wrong order

Do you often vacuum your carpets or mop the floors before dusting the furniture and wiping down the surfaces within a room? If so, you are probably not doing as thorough a job as you would like to think. Just like when you hire the best carpet cleaners Chelsea has to offer and you ensure that the rest of the house is immaculately clean before they arrive, you should ensure the same when cleaning your carpets and floors

DIY style. That way, crumbs and dust won’t wind up on the floor shortly thereafter.

Relying on your dishwasher to clean everything

Some kitchen tools, such as graters, have plenty of little holes and crevices that most dishwashers will not be equipped to reach. This means that your kitchen tools don’t come out nearly as clean as they should. Avoid this by washing these sorts of items by hand.

There you have it. How many of these common mistakes are you making on a daily basis? At least now you know. Ensuring a cleaner, healthier home is certain to be much easier going forward.
