In recognition of the hard work and dedication of our nursing and midwifery staff, our senior nursing and midwifery team is bringing back the hospital badge.

The team have worked in collaboration with Plymouth College of Art, asking the students to come up with designs for two badges, which will be awarded to all registered and non-registered nursing and midwifery staff at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

The badges will be awarded after one year of service and after more than 10 years.

Head of Nursing for Surgery, Sue Johnson, explains: “Like many registered Nurses and Registered Midwives, when I qualified as a Registered Nurse, I received a badge which was representative of the nursing school that I had attended and the two hospitals where I had completed my training.

"The badge was in recognition of my achievements, but it also gave me a sense of belonging and it evidenced my commitment to those hospitals and I still wear it to this day with pride.

"Here at the Trust we have been working on a project to introduce a 'Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust' badge in recognition of our nursing and midwifery staff, registered and unregistered, and the fantastic job that they all do every day.

"Our plan is to have two badges, the first being awarded to all staff after one year of service and the second for long service for our staff that work in the organisation for more than 10 years.

“We are very proud of our nursing and midwifery colleagues and we hope they will wear our hospital badge with pride.”

The shortlisted designs are now being shared with our staff for them to pick the design they prefer and the chosen badge design will be unveiled by Greg Dix, Director of Nursing, at the #WeCare Nursing and Midwifery Conference on Tuesday 13 May.
