A much-loved Paignton coffee shop has reopened in a new home, bringing with it premium coffee, retro style, community spirit and a whole lot of personality.

Custom Coffee Co, owned by Leon Elliott, has relaunched at 66 Palace Avenue, Paignton, giving the independent business a fresh new space while keeping the same distinctive energy that made it stand out in the first place.

Known for its vintage memorabilia, alternative feel and laid-back atmosphere, the coffee shop has already become more than somewhere to grab a caffeine fix. It is a place built around good coffee, good music, conversation and community.

The new premises gives Leon the chance to take everything people previously loved about Custom Coffee Co and build on it. From classic cars and bikes to the retro interior and creative touches, the shop reflects Leon’s own passions.

Local graffiti artist SZABOTAGE has even transformed the toilet with his signature spray- painted style, creating one of the coolest bathrooms in town — complete with a disco ball.

Leon said: “Custom Coffee Co has always been about more than just coffee. I wanted to create somewhere with personality; the coffee shop pretty much showcases everything I love. Classic cars, bikes, coffee and good vibes.

“The new premises gives us the space to do that, with the same welcoming atmosphere that people know us for.”

Coffee is supplied by Triple Co Roast, a Bristol-based speciality coffee roastery, with Custom Coffee Co focused on serving quality coffee in a space that feels warm, relaxed and full of character.

But what really sets the Palace Avenue spot apart is the growing community around it.

Every Saturday, Custom Run Club meets for a friendly 5km social run led by personal trainer Josh Pearson. The group is open to everyone, regardless of pace or experience, with runners heading back to the shop afterwards for coffee and a catch-up.

Leon said: “We care about serving really good coffee, but we also care about making people feel part of something. Whether someone is stopping by on their own, meeting friends, coming in after a run or just looking for somewhere to hang out with a great soundtrack playing, we want Custom Coffee Co to feel like their place.”

Alongside the run club, Leon also organises regular cycling ride-outs from the new premises, welcoming cyclists of all abilities.

There’s also a Friday morning sea-dip group, which grew from Leon’s own challenge to dip every day for a year in memory of a close friend, while raising money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

A classic car fan, Leon will also be hosting several meet-ups this summer, adding another reason for people to come together at the shop.

He said: “I love Paignton. I grew up here and I’m proud to be building something that people seem to enjoy. The aim is simple: great coffee, good people, good music, cool things to look at and a place that feels positive from the moment you walk in.”

Community is clearly at the heart of Custom Coffee Co, and that is evident in the number of regulars who have returned since the shop reopened.

With a new courtyard space opening this summer, Leon is planning even more pop-up events, including art exhibitions, vintage clothing sales, guest DJs and more.

Blending speciality coffee with retro interiors, creativity and community-led events, Custom Coffee Co is bringing something different to Paignton’s coffee shop scene — and giving people a place to meet, move, dip, ride, browse, listen and belong.

Custom Coffee Co is now open at 66 Palace Avenue, Paignton.
