Taste of the West, the South West’s prestigious food, drink and hospitality awards, announced earlier this year their winners for 2020. Good Game was awarded five gold awards for their Organic Culatello, Organic Lomo, Organic Coppa, Salami and Pepperoni. They have also now been awarded Champion Product winners for their Game Salami, after first winning this in 2019 for their Tuscan style product. Fighting off stiff competition from producers based across Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, and with over 800 products involved in the process, this is a fantastic accolade for the local independent business.

Judged by the most astute palates of chefs, restauranteurs, buyers, retailers and food writers, Taste of the West is renowned for being the most respected accreditation for artisan producers, cafés and restaurants. The unmistakable logo is a clear signal for an outstanding product that has met rigorous judging criteria on texture, appearance, quality ingredients and flavour.

Comments from the Taste of The West Judges included “Looks lovely – rustic, artisan and authentic with visible herbs and spices. A wonderful gamey, mature aroma with beautiful hints of fennel.  A well-balanced aroma with red wine coming through. A good slightly coarse texture with a nice bite to it. Tastes lovely with the well-balanced flavours – the spices and seasoning are coming through well but don’t overpower the game. There’s a good warmth from both the red wine and black pepper and a good taste from the fennel.”

Steve Williams, Good Game Co-Director, says: “We are absolutely thrilled to receive the Champion Product Award for the second year running. Defending our title as quality producers, it makes all the hard work worthwhile. It has been a tough year, but we continue to strive for excellence and quality in everything that we do.”

The awards celebrate quality, integrity and provenance of food in the West and seek to promote local produce that goes above and beyond in terms of quality and taste.

Good Game has a variety of salami for sale currently, with flavours including boar, rabbit and venison game.

Good Game products can be found in independent retailers, such as Darts Farm, or available online at good-game.co.uk
