Favis of Salcombe win gold in Taste of the West awards

Family firm Favis of Salcombe are celebrating winning a prestigious Gold Taste of the West Award for their acclaimed white crab meat in the fish category.

The Taste of the West Awards programme has been promoting and supporting the South West food and drink industry for two decades.

They celebrate and support the work of local producers and help to raise awareness about the work they do.

Favis of Salcombe have been fishing crab and lobster off the South Devon coast since 1972. Their crabber, The Emma Jane, is a familiar sight off Salcombe as it goes out up to 30 miles into The Channel to tend up to 2,000 pots.

Landing the catch isn’t the end of the story as the family have a factory and production facility just outside Kingsbridge where they handpick and pack the crab and lobster before sending it off to customers, clients and also export it all over the world.

“We are very proud to have won this prestigious award,” said Pippa Favis. “We are a family firm dedicated to providing the very best and highest quality crab and lobster from the seas off South Devon. Having recognition like this of our hard work and dedication means the world to us.

“We constantly strive to provide the freshest, highest quality shellfish in the fastest possible time: we can get it from pot to plate in less than eight hours.”
