Plymouth school and local business link provides donation to Ghanaian school
Plymouth High School for Girls is a long standing customer of Scomis, an Exeter based ICT Service Unit of Devon County Council who have hosted the head teacher of a Ghanaian school at a special event.
Following a recent re-brand, Scomis, who provide bespoke ICT services to schools and education services throughout the South West and beyond have donated their old branded uniform and stationary, to Ahantaman School for Girls in Ghana after being introduced to them by Plymouth High School for Girls.
The city school is celebrating its 10th year of being linked with the Ahantaman School in Ghana whose eadmistress, Mercy Ocloo, has travelled from Ghana to the Scomis office in Exeter to accept the donations on her school’s behalf.
The Ghanaian school is part funded by their government and part by parents of students who attend the school. However they particularly lack IT equipment .
Mrs Ocloo said: “Plymouth High School for Girls has been an immense help. I don’t know how we would have ever have afforded the equipment without them. Connecting us with Scomis in Exeter has been a fantastic idea and we are very grateful for the donation.”
Plymouth High School for Girls has been working with Scomis for nearly 25 years.
Peter Gibbs, a Scomis Consultant said: “The school's donated computers, projectors and equipment. They’ve also hosted Ahantaman School’s IT manager for a month giving him the knowledge and ability to programme servers, speed up modems and use Skype. Paul Renyard, PHSG’s Business Manager introduced Scomis to the notion of Mercy’s visit knowing that we wanted to donate our old uniform and stationary.”
Debbie Foweraker, Head of Service Management, Business Development and Consultancy at Scomis said; “It has been a real pleasure to meet Mercy today and to give her our donation in person. This is just the start of our relationship and support for Mercy’s school; our remit is all about supporting young people, be that in this country or in abroad. It’s all about support and education and we are thrilled to be involved.”
