Fundraising buzz: Plymouth nurse shaves head and raises £1685 for cancer charity
A Plymouth hospital worker has raised an impressive £1,685 for Cancer Research by ‘braving the shave’ in support of two close friends currently battling cancer.
Emma White, age 58 from Cornwall, who works in theatres at Practice Plus Group Plymouth alongside her friends, wanted to make a meaningful contribution to support cancer research while raising awareness of the disease that has affected people so close to her heart.
Determined to make a difference, Emma set herself the challenge of shaving off her hair. The head shave took place at a local hair salon recently and quickly captured the support of colleagues, friends, family and the wider community.
What began as a fundraising target of £1,000 soon exceeded expectations. Thanks to the generosity of donors and an additional £500 through her employer Practice Plus Group's match funding scheme, Emma's fundraising total reached an outstanding £1,685.
Reflecting on her achievement, Emma said:
"I would like to say a big thank you for all the support and generosity from everyone who donated towards my charity head shave for Cancer Research.
“I felt I needed to do something impactful for this charity due to two best friends of mine being diagnosed with this awful disease.
“I would also like to thank Practice Plus Group Plymouth for their healthy £500 donation through the match funding scheme, which helped me smash my initial target! I can’t thank everyone enough.”
Sarah Fell, Hospital Director, praised Emma's efforts, saying:
"Go Emma! Your courage and compassion speak volumes. Standing in solidarity with your friends while raising vital funds for cancer research is truly inspiring. You have made a real difference and should be incredibly proud of this achievement."
