Celebrity chef to chip in for Comic Relief bake sale

A celebrity chef will be trading top tips with students at a Plymouth school for disadvantaged young people to help them raise cash for Comic Relief.

Chris Tanner will be chipping in to add some celebrity sparkle to brownies for a cake bake sale at Plymouth City Council’s Alternative Complementary Education service, or ACE as it is better known, on Friday 15 March. The school works with young people unable to attend mainstream education for various reasons including health and behavioural issues.

Four students and the School’s education catering manager, Julia Lennon, will be lucky enough to bake with the talented chef, co-owner of Tanner’s Restaurant and the Barbican Kitchen in Plymouth. They plan to make a batch of chocolate brownies for sale to staff and parents visiting the school in the hope of raising money for ‘Red Nose Day’.

Chris says: “I’m delighted to be involved with ACE’s efforts to raise money for Comic Relief. It’s such a worthwhile cause and baking is a great way for friends and family to raise money.”

Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Councillor Nicky Williams, said: “Homemade chocolate brownies – I can’t think of a tastier way to raise money for Comic Relief! It’s great to see young people in the city coming together to do good deeds for others less fortunate than themselves. We have a lot to be thankful for in this country, and whilst we know there are problems on our doorstep, there are certainly others in dire need across the world. Comic Relief raises money for projects throughout the world, including the UK and indeed 103 projects in the South West have received cash from the charity.”

Staff and students will also be wearing red in aid of Comic Relief, along with the obligatory red noses.
