Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) has advised M Subs Limited on its acquisition of 3 Bush Park, Plymouth, supporting the defence manufacturer’s expansion in one of the UK’s fastest-growing centres for maritime autonomy and advanced engineering.

The deal is significant both for M Subs Limited and for Plymouth’s wider defence economy. The acquisition increases the company’s operational footprint in a city that is attracting major public and private investment, following confirmation of the Plymouth Defence Growth Deal in April 2026. Backed by £50 million from the UK Government, the deal is designed to accelerate defence innovation, strengthen supply chains and reinforce Plymouth’s position as a national hub for marine autonomy and high-value manufacturing.

Against that backdrop, M Subs Limited’s investment demonstrates confidence in Plymouth’s long-term growth potential and the increasing demand for cutting-edge maritime and autonomous systems. For businesses operating in the sector, access to the right space and infrastructure is critical to scaling at pace.

WBD provided full legal support throughout the transaction, ensuring an efficient completion aligned with the company’s strategic objectives. The deal required swift, coordinated action due to the presence of a competing bidder. Working to a hard deadline of 12 June to exchange contracts, WBD accelerated key workstreams, including property searches, and worked closely with third parties, including the local planning authority, to keep the transaction moving at pace.

The WBD team was led by managing associate Krista McCarthy, with support from partner Craig Moore, trainee solicitor Caitlin Haynes-Parry and planning advice from Dana Cook. WBD also worked seamlessly with the client’s external accountant on tax-related matters, helping ensure the transaction aligned with M Subs Limited’s wider commercial objectives.

Throughout the due diligence process, WBD took a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach, advising on commercial risks and helping the client make informed decisions in a fast-moving environment. The transaction also highlights the firm’s strength in supporting complex strategic investments in the South West, combining sector expertise with local market knowledge to help clients move quickly and with confidence.

Craig Moore commented:

"This is an important acquisition for M Subs Limited and a strong example of the investment and ambition driving Plymouth’s defence sector. We were pleased to support the business on a transaction that not only strengthens its operational capacity, but also reflects the wider momentum behind the city’s growth as a centre for advanced marine and defence innovation. Our team’s understanding of the local market, combined with deep experience in complex transactions, meant we could help the client move quickly and decisively."

Laura Wyatt, Director at MSubs, said:

"This acquisition represents an important step in the continued growth of M Subs and reinforces our commitment to investing in Plymouth as a centre for maritime innovation. We are grateful for Womble Bond Dickinson’s pragmatic and responsive support throughout the transaction, particularly in navigating a competitive process and tight timescales. Their commercial approach helped ensure we were able to complete efficiently and with confidence."
