Hands-on seasonal fun for Easter at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery

Easter is on its way and as usual there are a number of hands-on, creative events for children (and their grown-ups) to get stuck into at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery.

Activities begin with some ‘Eggstra Special’ art and craft sessions on Saturday 30 March, where people will get the chance to make an Easter chick in a basket as well as some other seasonal keepsakes. The 60-minute sessions run from 11am to midday and 1.30pm to 2.30pm. Admission is free but advance booking is essential on 01752 304774.

The Easter-themed fun continues on Wednesday 3 April with an ‘Animal Magic’ mask-making workshop plus a hat making workshop on Thursday 4 April where people can take inspiration from the objects and images on display around the Museum.

During the second week of the holidays, people can investigate nature to make birds’ nests on Wednesday 10 April, decorate paper plates and cups based on the ceramics from the collections on Thursday 11 April and work with artist Jane Stevens to design and make mosaic tiles on Saturday 13 April.

The sessions on 3, 4, 10 and 11 April will run from 10.30am to 1pm with last entries at 12.30pm. Admission is free and there is no need to book. People are welcome to drop in for as little or as long as they like but are asked to be patient if sessions are busy as activities are organised on a first come, first served basis.

The Jane Stevens mosaic workshop on 13 April is also free but advance booking is essential on 01752 304774.

A number of the events on offer are linked to the current ‘Gordon Baldwin: Objects for a Landscape’ exhibition (on display until 11 May). This major touring show from York Museums Trust celebrates the achievements of Gordon Baldwin OBE, one of the most important ceramic artists of our time. It features over 100 works as well as drawings, collage and photographs and explores Baldwin's influences, from music and landscape to 20th century art.
