Bovey Castle deliver £350k investment in luxury lodges
Two luxury lodges on Dartmoor have undergone a £350,000 investment ahead of what is being tipped as a popular year for staycations, according to new research.
The two luxury self-catering lodges, which are part of five-star resort Bovey Castle, have undergone significant refurbishment to cater for up to eight people in each, and are now open for bookings.
It comes as a recent YouGov UK poll found that four in ten Brits are intending to reduce their global travel plans or re-focus on domestic trips in 2026, with rising costs impacting international travel.
The two refurbished lodges now promote large family gatherings in a modern environment, including large l-shaped leather sofas next to high-rising stone fireplaces, long Scandinavian dining tables.
Each of Bovey Castle’s 22 lodges have their own distinct character, and the two refurbished lodges are no different, adopting blue and amber tones respectively.
Sustainability has also been at the heart of the refurb, with wooden staircases re-stained; existing artwork re-framed; and the layout reconfigured to expose the natural slate floors to complement the new colour schemes.
Other thoughtful additions include the installation of flat-screen TVs, introducing small games tables, and providing binoculars and telescopes for families to use on Dartmoor during their stay.
Elsewhere, little touches such as adding in shelving in the kitchen has helped to provide both a contemporary but practical look, while the bathrooms have also been further modernised with timber-effect tiles, lit mirrors, rainfall showers and additional storage.
Lucy Yarwood is the Interior Designer for Bovey Castle’s owners, Eden Hotel Collection, and oversaw the refurbishments.
She said: “These lodges provide a beautiful and homely setting in the summer months, as well as providing ski lodge vibes in the winter – all in the heart of the English countryside, creating an inviting and relaxed atmosphere for families to create special memories all year round.
“The introduction of warm and rich colours has really helped to bring out some of the key features of these magnificent stone buildings – including the rooftop beams, the slate flooring and the stone fireplaces.
“Sustainability has also been central to this process, and alongside repurposing existing features, we have used trusted local suppliers who provide quality products at Bovey Castle’s shop, such as the bed throws.
“The lodges are beautiful stone buildings set amongst a breathtaking Dartmoor landscape, and the interiors are just as special, creating the perfect environment for families to unwind and relax throughout the year.”
The six-week refurb project has already had positive feedback from families, said Bovey Castle’s General Manager Dean Gunston.
Dean added: “Above anything else guests have commented on the welcoming and warm atmosphere of the lodges, which has helped them to relax from day one.
“These two refurbished lodges are perfect for parents, children and grandparents to holiday together.
“Our self-catering lodges have seen growth over the past few years, with more families liking the idea of being able to explore somewhere new at their own pace, and we are expecting more of the same this year.”
