Devon’s 15-acre smallholding named Best Places to Stay by The Sunday Times & honoured with a Green Michelin Star
Glebe House, the 15-acre smallholding, guesthouse and restaurant in East Devon, is celebrating two major accolades: a Green Star in the 2026 Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland and a place in The Sunday Times’ 50 Best Places to Stay 2026.
The Green Star recognises Glebe House's dedication to sustainability and low-impact hospitality. Michelin inspectors praised its farmhouse charm and farm-to-fork ethos, with seasonal menus shaped by ingredients grown on-site. Additionally, The Sunday Times highlighted Glebe House as an exceptional British escape, emphasising its “rustic and rather lovely restaurant” and the simple pleasures of “good food, good walks and good fun”.
Situated in a former Georgian vicarage just three miles from the coast, Glebe House was launched in 2021 by Hugo and Olive Guest. Inspired by Italy's relaxed agriturismi, the couple transformed Hugo’s childhood home into a smallholding, guesthouse and restaurant, where much of the produce is grown or raised on site.
The kitchen is led by head chef David Knapman, who recently joined the business as a partner alongside the Guests. With experience in renowned establishments like The Fat Duck and Maison Lameloise, Knapman brings a craft-led, seasonal approach to the menu, utilising ingredients from the kitchen garden, neighbouring farms and trusted local producers. Much of what’s served is made in-house, from bread and charcuterie to preserves and ferments.
Speaking about the accolades, David Knapman says: “It’s a humbling moment. We work very hard, and are very proud of what we do so it’s fantastic to be recognised in this way. Glebe has always stayed very true to what we do, a focus on great produce, seasonality and cooking food scratch using artisan techniques. Sustainability is a journey, and there is lots of great work to be done.”
Glebe House features 9 bedrooms, gardens, an outdoor swimming pool, and a dining-room restaurant welcoming guests, locals, and visitors alike. This year, it launched The Crow’s Nest Cabins, transforming a family hideout into two cedar-clad, one-bedroom cabins designed by Akin Studio and Out of the Valley. Each cabin features a super-king bedroom, a cosy kitchen and dining nook with a wood burner, and a private deck with a sunken outdoor bath.
Alongside the cabins, a new wood-fired sauna has opened in a quiet corner of the garden overlooking the Coly Valley, complete with a cold plunge and outdoor shower. Glebe House has also launched a Sauna & Dine package, offering locals a private sauna session paired with a relaxed seasonal lunch or dinner in the restaurant, perfect for a day out.
