Ashbury Dental Practice Hosts Free Children’s Open Day to Support Local Families

Ashbury Dental Practice in Budleigh Salterton opened its doors to local families on Friday 20th February during the half-term holidays, offering free dental check-ups and fluoride applications for children in the community.

The Children’s Open Day was created in response to the ongoing challenges many families face in accessing NHS dental care for children. The Ashbury team wanted to provide a welcoming, supportive space where children could receive essential preventative care at no cost.

The event welcomed 22 children and their families throughout the day, with the children receiving dental check-ups, fluoride applications, and practical oral health advice in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Alice Issac, Practice Manager, said:

“The event was a huge success and we loved seeing so many families come down. The dentist shouldn't be a scary place for a child and at Ashbury we want to educate children on the importance of good oral health as early as possible to help prepare them for the future.”

To help children feel at ease, the team incorporated fun, interactive elements into the day. Goodie bags were handed out, and toys were used to demonstrate tooth counting and brushing techniques, helping nervous children relax, laugh and build positive associations with dental visits.

Ashbury Dental Care also highlighted its commitment to making children’s dentistry affordable and accessible through its dedicated Children’s Plan. The practice offers tailored plans for children aged 6–11 and teenagers aged 12–16, designed to support oral health at every stage of development. Children on the plan receive up to 50% off treatments, with children under six years old seen free of charge with an adult.

The team hopes the success of the Open Day will encourage more families to prioritise early dental care and help children develop lifelong healthy habits.
