From today (16 February 2026) workplaces across Torbay are invited to join the free Torbay on the Move Active Workplace Challenge 2026—a free, fun and motivational month long activity challenge running from 2 March to 30 March 2026.

If you are over 18 and work in Torbay, this is your chance to step, wheel, run, cycle or move in any way you choose while boosting your wellbeing and enjoying a friendly dose of competition.

Back for the third year, the challenge is delivered by Active Devon on behalf of Torbay Council as part of the Torbay on the Move initiative. It encourages colleagues to get active together as they virtually travel the full length of Great Britain—simply by racking up steps.

This year, every movement counts, and teams will unlock virtual milestones, discover fascinating facts along the route, and celebrate progress along the way. As well as the overall winners being crowned the most active workplace in Torbay, there are lots of weekly prizes available to be won.

Participants who take part can look forward to:

  • Supporting their physical and mental wellbeing
  • Engaging in more time outdoors exploring beautiful Torbay
  • Chance to save money through active travel and leaving the car at home, while lowering their carbon footprint
  • Opportunity to work as a team, strengthening team spirit and workplace connections
  • Lots of fun through prize draws and mini activity challenges

Councillor Hayley Tranter, Torbay’s Cabinet Member for Adult and Community Services, Public Health and Inequalities, said:  “This challenge has become a real fixture in Torbay’s calendar and it’s great to see it return for the third year.

“I’m pleased that even more activities are included in this year’s challenge – not just walking and running, but activities like gardening, swimming and dancing. This means everyone can get involved as there’s bound to be an activity that suits you.”

The challenge is designed to be fair for all teams—whether the team has three members or 10—thanks to multiple leaderboard categories. In addition to Total Distance leaderboards, there is also a Team Average Distance leaderboard, which calculates the average distance per person. This means that small teams are not disadvantaged and every participant’s contribution makes an equal impact.

Throughout the challenge, teams will receive weekly emails with mini competitions and plenty of opportunities to win prizes. At the end, winners will be announced for:

  • Individual winner, runner up and 3rd place (most steps)
  • Team winners (total distance)
  • Team runners up (total distance)
  • Team winners (average distance)
  • Team runners up (average distance)

Three live leaderboards will be available for everyone to track their progress.

This year’s challenge will also include ‘most improved individual’. This will be rewarded three times to the person who has increased their steps by the biggest percentage since the previous week – making an even bigger incentive to get moving.

The Torbay on the Move Active Workplace Challenge is delivered using the Big Team Challenge app and webpage. From 16 February 2026, participants can register, form and name a workplace team (between three and 10 people), and begin preparing for the four week activity adventure across virtual Great Britain—covering a total of 1,558 km (2,272,568 Steps).

To log activity, connect your step tracking apps to the challenge platform to streamline tracking or log distance manually through the app or website platform. There is a handy convertor, which converts activity into steps to ensure the correct totals are logged.

So, whether you’re looking to boost your wellbeing, strengthen your workplace community, or enjoy some friendly competition, the Torbay on the Move Active Workplace Challenge 2026 is the perfect way to kickstart a healthier, happier spring.
