Community-conscious colleagues at a sight-saving eyecare clinic donated food and funds for those in need this winter.

The team at Newmedica Plymouth donated more than 30kg of essentials to the North Plymouth Food Bank, ready for Christmas.

The foodbank provides immediate, emergency food relief to Plymouth people facing hunger due to poverty, job loss, illness or high living costs, preventing malnutrition and impossible choices between food and bills.

In addition, the clinic hosted a cake bake and snack stand at its Derriford site, with donations being made to Vision Care Plymouth for people experiencing homelessness.

Nearly £50 was collected on the day, with the clinic’s team matching this amount to donate to Sight Research UK, which funds groundbreaking research into the causes, prevention and treatment of eye disease.

Amanda Champion, Newmedica Plymouth’s operational director, said: “We are so proud to have made these donations for such good causes.

“Raising nearly £50 from the cake sale – that’s a lot of cake. Our team has shown true Christmas spirit and commitment to making a difference for some incredible charities.

“A huge thank you to everyone who participated, donated and supported these fantastic causes.”

The Newmedica Plymouth clinic is based in Derriford, providing services for private patients and NHS patients, which assists the NHS with reducing its waiting lists.

The clinic is owned and run by consultant ophthalmologists Mr Tom Cudrnak, Mr Nick Edmeades and Mr Vasant Raman, as well as Amanda.
