New recycling stations at Dartmoor Zoo marks sustainability milestone
From the beginning of November, DCW will be providing bespoke, strategically placed recycling stations throughout the zoo’s premises, enhancing the visitor experience while promoting responsible waste management practices and encouraging visitors to recycle more by helping to separate their waste and increase recycling rates across the site.
The new system will make it easier for everyone at Dartmoor Zoo to recycle more and send less waste to energy from waste facilities. All waste and recycling will now be weighed, allowing the zoo to track its progress and measure the positive impact of its sustainability initiatives over time.
This latest development builds on an already successful partnership between DCW and Dartmoor Zoo, which has seen innovative projects such as transforming donated olive barrels into enrichment toys for Dragan, the zoo’s much-loved Amur tiger. The creative reuse of materials not only supports animal welfare but also highlights how circular economy principles can reduce waste and benefit the environment.
Emma Barr, Key Account Manager at DCW, said: “These new recycling stations will make it easier for staff and visitors to recycle more and waste less valuable materials, helping Dartmoor Zoo meet its sustainability goals. It’s great to work with a partner that shares DCW’s commitment to supporting sustainability and the environment.”
Dartmoor Zoo’s Facilities Manager, Stuart Franklins, added: “Becoming more sustainable is a key goal for us at Dartmoor Zoo. Working with DCW means we can take meaningful steps forward – reducing what’s put in the general waste, improving recycling rates, and inspiring visitors to get involved in protecting our planet.”
The installation of recycling stations marks an important milestone in Dartmoor Zoo’s ongoing efforts to become greener and more environmentally responsible, while also setting an example for other attractions across the South West.
