Pop Idol judge and legendary record producer of Kylie Minogue, Pete Waterman OBE DL, made a special visit to Pecorama this weekend to celebrate the 20th birthday of one of its most beloved locomotives, Claudine. Having first unveiled Claudine two decades ago, Waterman returned to lead a heartfelt rededication ceremony and take the locomotive on a celebratory lap of honour, on a day that was filled with live music, hot food and ice creams.

A lifelong railway enthusiast and renowned model railway expert, Waterman spent the day with staff, volunteers, and visitors at the scenic Devon attraction. The event was made even more special by the presence of Claudine’s original builder, Chief Mechanical Engineer John Macdougall, who joined a live interview with Michael Pritchard—Chairman of PECO Model Railways and owner of Pecorama. Claudine is named in honour of Michael’s mother, Claudine Pritchard, adding a deeply personal touch to the occasion.

Waterman, who also serves as President of The Railway Benefit Fund (RBF), used the event to raise awareness for the charity, which provides vital support to railway workers past and present. “I’ve been a fan of the RBF for 25 years and I’m proud to be their President,” he said. “The history of the charity is incredible—past patrons include Charles Dickens.”

This year also marks the 50th anniversary of Pecorama and to celebrate, the attraction is offering 50% off all tickets throughout the season, helping families enjoy a fantastic day out for less. With heritage trains, model railways, beautiful gardens, and now a rededicated Claudine, there’s never been a better time to visit.
