Plymouth Tourism Conference to Focus on Digital Trends
Just over 10 years on from the creation of Destination Plymouth, its annual Tourism Conference will focus on digital trends and how data can drive a tourism change.
This year’s forum, sponsored by City College Plymouth and PL1 Events, takes place on Wednesday, November 16 at the city’s Duke of Cornwall Hotel and will examine the current challenges affecting the sector and how digital technology and data can help businesses to make decisions in future.
The event will also cover recent perception research findings for the ‘Britain’s Ocean City’ brand and an update on how the city is driving forwards its Green Tourism and sustainability agenda.
Key speakers will include: Andrea Nicholas, Chief Executive of Green Business UK Ltd and Co-founder of the Green Tourism Certification Programme; Kate Doodson, Joint Chief Executive & Digital Transformation Consultant and Coach at leading ethical digital business Cosmic UK and Jonathan Alder, Managing Director of brand agency at Alder and Alder.
The day will be introduced by Destination Plymouth Chairman Adrian Vinken OBE CBE, who will outline the successes of partnership working across the city over the past ten years and future plans for the organisation.
Amanda Lumley, Chief Executive of Destination Plymouth and President of the Tourism Management Institute, says: “We’ve had a fantastic 12 months in Plymouth with some superb events bringing in thousands of visitors and really boosting our profile – the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and SailGP, to name just two. This conference will bring together experts to look at how the digital world can help us make the city even more successful and attractive to tourists in the future.”
The event is Destination Plymouth’s first ‘in person’ conference since the pandemic and is open to all businesses from across the city who are part of the tourism, leisure, cultural heritage and hospitality sectors. In addition to the conference, the organisation will also have an exhibition space during the day - including stands for Plymouth Charter, Destination Green Tourism Programme, City College Plymouth, South West 660 and more - with many of its team on hand to provide information and support for businesses and members.
The event begins with registration at 9.30am and closes at 4pm. To book tickets - price £20 plus VAT (students’ half-price discount available) - visit:
