Exclusive Online Auction to raise funds for the Children’s Hospice South West is now on!

Fancy a new Mulberry handbag, or tickets to the X Factor final? Bid for these items on the exclusive Precious Lives Atlantic Challenge Ebay auction, which starts on Friday 6 June, and you will be helping children across the South West.

The exclusive auction is in support of the Precious Lives Atlantic Challenge – a record breaking row across the Atlantic raising much needed funds for the Children’s Hospice South West. Starting on the 6 June this exciting auction will feature a new item each day. With lots including an original Red Arrows flying suit, a designer ‘Bayswater’ Mulberry handbag  and even a bottle of whisky boxed and signed by the late Margaret Thatcher – not to mention tickets to the X Factor final! - there’s something for everyone.

Each lot will run for only ten days so you need to be quick if you want to grab one of these exclusive items. More information on the auction and how to bid can be found at www.chsw.org.uk/auction and money raised from the items will go towards helping help the charity deliver its promise to make the most of short and precious lives.

The Precious Lives Atlantic Challenge is a heroic attempt to set a new world record for crossing the Atlantic set back in 1896 when two Norwegians, George Harbo and Frank Samuelson set an unbeaten record of just 55 days to cross the ocean.

The 2014 challengers, Chris Walters and Elliott Dale, both experienced ocean rowers, are starting their bid for a new world record on Friday 6 June setting off from New York and hoping to complete the 3246 miles to the Isles of Scilly in record time.

This enormous challenge is to raise funds for the Children’s Hospice South West. With three hospices - Little Bridge House in Devon, Charlton Farm in Somerset and Little Harbour in Cornwall – the charity offers help and support for life-limited children and their families from across the whole of the South West.

Chris and Elliott will no doubt encounter many physical and mental challenges throughout the crossing but Elliott said: ‘When we’re at a low point we will think back to the families and the children and what we’re enduring is nothing in comparison.”

Alana Marie Smith, Director of fundraising for Children’s Hospice South West says: “Rowing the Atlantic Ocean has to be one of the most daring and exhilarating challenges any of our  supporters has undertaken for us and is exceptionally courageous. We really hope that people will support this exciting online auction and show their support not only for the Precious Lives Atlantic Challenge but our hardworking hospices.”

In addition to the auction, you can also lend your support by texting PLAC14 followed by the amount you wish to donate in £’s to 70070. Overall, the Precious Lives Atlantic Challenge is hoping to raise over £300,000 for the Children’s Hospice South West and any amount, however small, helps with their vital work.
