Interactive workshops and networking zones for students and parents will be among the new initiatives at Plymouth University’s 2013 Summer Open Day.

Around 6,500 people are expected to attend the event, where prospective students will be able to get a flavour of what life is like at the University.

They will get the opportunity to find out more about their subject of interest, while also touring the campus and finding out more about the city as a whole.

Student Recruitment Manager Cassandra Hickling said: “We place great emphasis on delivering an outstanding student experience, as illustrated by our success in the latest National Student Survey. That experience starts at our Open Day, and the new plans for 2013 aim to make the event even more student focused. Students and parents will see Plymouth is an exciting and enterprising place to be, where employability is embedded into extra-curricular as well as academic activities.”

This year’s Undergraduate Open Day, taking place on Wednesday 26 June, will include a Student Services Village, where potential students can get answers about the support on offer and student life at Plymouth.

It will feature new interactive activities, including workshops designed to prepare students for living on a budget, and offering tips and advice from current students. Prospective students will also be given tips on writing their personal statements.

There will also be student and guardian zones, to enable networking with others in similar circumstances and the chance to ask questions of current students and staff in an informal setting.

The Undergraduate Open Day offers prospective students a series of dedicated subject talks and drop-ins, as well as the opportunity to have an informal chat with academics and current students. Presentations will also run throughout the day on topics such as fees and funding, student life and support will be available from our careers and employability team.

With more than 3,000 prospective students already registered to attend, book now to avoid disappointment. The day will run from 10am to 4.30pm. To register for the event visit www.plymouth.ac.uk or phone 01752 585858.
