New work club launches at St Budeaux Library

Plymouth City Council’s library service is launching its fourth work club on Friday 11 July, this time at St Budeaux Library.

The work club will give jobseekers practical advice on putting together a CV and covering letter, searching for jobs and using websites. There will also be support with completing application forms and preparing for interviews.

Quick sex test for Living Coasts birds

Zoo keepers at Living Coasts in Torquay are using a hi-tech DNA test to discover the sex of newborn chicks more quickly.

The test, using cells from inside the shell of a newly hatched egg, has been developed by a company called Avian Biotech of Truro, Cornwall.

Flare thrown into car in Plymouth

Firefighters were called McDonalds at Marsh Mills following reports that a “smoke bomb” had been thrown into to a car, just before 1am today.

On arrival, firefighters from Greenbank discovered there had been a small fire within the car, caused by a marine flare.

Crews made the area safe.
