Sam Bailey, who won series ten of the X Factor in 2013, is to return to Plymouth to switch on the Christmas lights, following news that Shayne Ward will now not be able to attend on 17 November.

“We’re thrilled Sam is coming back” comments Jon Walton, City Centre Manager, “She was hugely popular last year and we’ve had lots of requests for us to bring her back to Plymouth.  It is disappointing Shayne can’t be with us too but the success of his role in Coronation Street, and an impending big storyline, has forced him to cancel due to filming commitments.”

Ward comments, “I am absolutely gutted that I am now unable to perform at Plymouth Christmas lights switch on. It is something that is out of my control. I hate to disappoint my fans. I hope the lights switch on goes well and everyone has a great time!”

Sam Bailey said: “I’m delighted to be coming back to Plymouth to help switch the Christmas lights on” she comments, “I love Plymouth and I love Christmas so I cannot wait to spread the festive spirit across the city.”

Councillor Glenn Jordan, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, said: “We’re obviously disappointed Shayne is no longer able to make it but Sam was a big hit with the crowd last year and will definitely get Plymouth in the mood for another fun festive season. As always, there’s loads on offer for shoppers and visitors as we count down to this year’s Christmas celebrations.”
