University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust has today launched its 'green plan', the strategy that determines its sustainability principles for the next five years as it works, alongside partner organisations such as Plymouth City Council to be net zero carbon by 2030.

“For a Greener Future” is our sustainable development green plan which will govern how the Trust improves its economic, environmental and social impacts over the next five years. Talking about the launch of the plan Chief Executive Ann James said: “Declaring a climate health emergency at UHP is a really important statement that we, as an organisation, understand that the decisions we make or are asked to make in the future will reference back to the plan and it puts sustainability prominently on our agenda.

“The Trust Board at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust were unanimous in the decision and accepting the importance of working towards greener goals and being prepared to try and stand by those commitments as we make future decisions.

“Launching our green plan feels like a really good thing to do, it’s not always the easiest to do because it’s about turning commitments in to action but I’m really proud of UHP that we take on our wider responsibilities to our local communities.”
