A driver became trapped in his car after the vehicle left the slipway of the Exeter-bound carriageway of the A38 between Deeplane and Smithaleigh on Thursday morning (26 September). Police, paramedics and fire crews all attended the scene.

The car went into a field where three fire appliances from Plympton, Crownhill and Plymstock attended. Fire crews worked, alongside paramedics and police, to make the vehicle safe and released the male casualty using hydraulic rescue equipment, small tools, a triple extension ladder and level 1 safety at height and confined space equipment.

A Heavy Rescue Team from Middlemoor was also in attendance.

The three-lane stretch of carriageway has been partially blocked causing some delays.
