Train routes to Devon and Cornwall blocked

The South West has experienced yet more damage due to stormy weather with Crewkerne being victim to a landslide.

The landslide, which was reported by Network Rail, means that popular routes in and out of Devon ( including Exeter to Waterloo) are blocked.

Earlier in the week Dawlish was affected by the weather after waves destroyed the train line.

Bridgewater and Yeovil routes are also both currently blocked due to this weekend's landslide and continued bad weather.

Network Rail said: "It is likely that the slip at Crewkerne will be closed for a least a week, but it is too early to say when the line through Bridgewater will reopen. The floods are currently being blown into waves by the high winds in the area, which are washing away the stones the track rests on. The route via Athelney is under water but will be assessed as soon as the flood level drops."

Passengers are advised to check before they travel for the rest of the weekend, either with their operator or at www.nationalrail.co.uk
