Party in the Park, Beach Rangers and the annual music festival are just some of the events coming up in the summer calendar for Barne Barton.

Plymouth City Council is working with the Barne Barton Partnership to coordinate a full activity programme for children, young people and families.

The Party in the Park will be held on 23 July from 11am to 3.30pm at the Red Brick Field, a former school pitch residents would like to become a community space.

A field at Estuary Way will be re-opened as a formal pitch this summer and will be the home pitch for a newly formed and first Barne Barton Rangers football junior league team. These access improvements have been coordinated through the Barne Barton Partnership Green Space Forum that has helped secure Section 106 funds to enable improvements to be made.

A ‘Greening Barne Barton’ proposal is being developed based on the community ambitions that have been highlighted through the Barne Barton Neighbourhood Plan. The proposal will also include improvements to the park at Kinterbury Creek. A consultation will be held during a community Love Parks Week event at Kinterbury Creek on Thursday 1 August.

Cabinet member for Co-operatives and Community Development Councillor Chris Penberthy said: “There’s an exciting local programme of events for people in Barne Barton this summer. It highlights how we’re working co-operatively with partners, community groups and organisations for the benefit of residents.”

Other summer activities include Fun in The Park with Play Rangers at Kit Hill and Savage Road parks twice weekly, Pizza Parties during ‘Snack and Chat’ sessions for young people, under 5s sessions at Tamar Folk Children’s Centre, Beach Rangers and Fotonow at Kinterbury Creek and family gardening club and cookery sessions at Furze Park community flat.

The programme will culminate in the annual Music Festival on 31 August from 11am to 6pm which is run by Tamar View Community at the MOD field.
